In a hush, hush place far from a wild world my secret garden holds the key to solace. Where time for a moment stands still and looks back at bygone eras of history. A place of my dreams, a surreal magical rest that for a fraction of my life seems so genuinely real!!!!
Rainy spring and summer afternoons amidst thundering storms and the twinkle of fairy wings among tall grassy woods after a overflowing down pour. When Hallows Eve arrives at the end of autumn’s falling leaves with witches and goblins flying high on midnight skies and the hearth roaring the coziness of the indoors enticing me to stay in and begin to envision my dreams. The magic of Christmas and Christmases past and the coming of winter’s magic cloak painting a white glimmering landscape of fawless beauty with disappearing roads leading one to think time has slipped into the past!
And living in the past is what I do best…… To daydream of forgotten lands only existing in great novels and books that I obscenely collect and to have part of me be in a place far removed from the present world that I live in. There I’ll be on a Welsh hilltop inside a haunting castle overlooking the sea; visually dreaming of pirate ships coming into bay and mermaids hiding in blue grottos dotted alone the sanding shores. Or maybe if I happen to romanticize about Old England be living in a thatched roof cottage in Somerset surrounded by climbing rose bowers and watching the little tits dwelling in the garden of secrets.
And all around me childhood fairytales spin and swirl, weaving a magical imagination in my mind. And then conception of ideas materialize and become reality contrived from materials I may find in the wildwoods of the region like the crystallized fossils of my treasure keeps and hearts or the use of repousse architectural objects and or jewels finding new life in different roles. Of course without a doubt anything that I may acquire that originates from the sea whether directly or from some other one’s loved collection is always incorporated into a lot of my art work.
The art I make is the art I take from nature, from the past and bring into the present and hope will lead into the future. My passions dwell in the crevices of long gone eras. I am enamored by the artistic periods of the Renaissance, Edwardian, and Gothic Victorian. I tend to love many more periods for each has its own beauty and uniqueness to behold. And so I think from this you’ll find a eclectic mix of art work which I hope will captivate your heart and my work will remind you of some forgotten treasure you once thought lost but now again found!
All of my art is meticulously made and I take great time and care into making it faultless. Time is precious and I try to rarely waste it. When I search for the fossils it takes an endearing amount of time to search for and once found, hulling them back miles from the wild wood. Then the cleaning begins and from there the conception and idea of the art piece evolves. Of course the timing again is important for I can only search for the gems at certain periods of the calendar year. This is due to weather and hunting seasons and avoiding certain wild life. When it comes to other choice art I create there again I must first find the old and unique piece and then incorporate it into the work.
In this secret garden, there are no boundaries, only an infinite never ending story. An inexhaustible source of inspiration for me to draw from, envelope and secure into a permanent capsuled dream and transport it to another realm of another’s dream.
